Background:
RDC designed in 2018 the first UHPC road bridge built in Spain. The solution was required to rebuild a bridge over the Vernissa river, which was destroyed by the floods on year 2007. The bridge consisted of a bidirectional decks supported existing piles to save six spans, each of them of 10 m. The purpose of the solution was to achieve a resilient structure able to resist future floods and with improved durability.
Why to use UHPC?
UHPC provides a more resilient structure in a region that suffers periodically the hit of the floods. Besides, it has higher corrosion strength than the alternatives with concrete.
Advantages:
- High resiliency of the structure.
- High level of industrialization of the solution compared to the alternatives.
Achievements:
- First road bridge built in Spain with UHPC.
